Kimber Pro CDP II .45 Auto

A lightweight, alloy frame .45 Auto for personal defense, the Kimber Pro CDP II offers the power of a 1911 in a convenient size. The CDP stands for Custom Defense Package, and is ideal for conceal carry. The Pro CDP II has a full-size grip frame with checkered rosewood grips in the classic double diamond pattern. The seven round magazine well is slightly beveled to facilitate a quick magazine change. The thumb safety is extended, and it is also ambidextrous.

As with most Kimber .45’s, the slide fit to the frame and barrel fit is excellent, without any discernable play between the parts. With a three pound trigger pull and crisp release, this handgun has proven to be reliable.

SMR: $1141.00 Includes hard plastic storage case, three magazines, manual, and cable lock.

I bought a Kimber Pro CDP II. This was my first 1911. It fired well but I’ve had a lot of misfeed and extractor problems. Five to seven rounds per box of 50. I sent the gun back to Kimber and they replaced the slide that had an external extractor with a new one housing an internal extractor. Additionally, they polished the push rod, reamed and polished the barrel chamber and replaced recoil spring. It still misfed 3 out of 50 but the extraction problem was cured. The 45 round would hit the feed ramp and not go into the barrel camber. I even had the feed ramp polished to a mirrror finish. Tried 4 brands of ammo. Any Ideas why this happened. I really liked the gun but lost faith in it and traded it off for a Glock. Great Web site!

3 out of 50 is still too high - not good. I don’t know what to say other than maybe you just got a lemon, a bad one out of a batch - which is unusual for Kimber. They’re typically known for very precise tolerances in their manufacturing. I’ve put over 100 rounds though another model Kimber I’ve got without any misfires - using ammo I’ve hand loaded.

Bad ammo can make any gun misbehave.

Sad to see you trade that for a Glock though. I’ve never liked Glock - feels like a toy and not very accurate to my liking. My personal favorite .45 is a military reconditioned Colt M1911 originally from WWI. I have special sights on it and that old Colt I care for and shoot as a prize possession.

Kimber should’ve let you exchange the entire piece if it was still under warranty - given that they could conclude the prob wasn’t with bad ammo.
