Cheaper guns at Wal-Mart

    Cheaper guns at Wal-Mart.

Gunbroker.com seller ton80 has a Winchester 94 Ranger 30-30 for sell (41174230), new condition. His BIN is $339.00 and add that to the shipping cost, which is typically over $20.00, you end up paying at least $360 for the rifle. So Lisa sent him this link at Wal-Mart we found. Even though we both hate Wal-Mart, she sent the link to him to see what his response would be.

    http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=2685352

Mr. Ton80 so politely responded with…
    ----------------------------------------
duh, what is your point, walmart sells 2nd, how do you think they can
get them and sell them so cheap. you dont reckon that they are selling them
at a loss because they like us. i can sell you a second for same price and
make more profit than if you bought the one for 339. go to walmart and
    get you one. merry xmas
    ----------------------------------------

Apparently, supposition is that the Winchester rifles sold at Wal-Mart are of a lower quality. What? Can this be true? Would Winchester make lower quality rifles and then send them to Wal-Mart while ton80 only sells the best Winchester rifles?

  2. It's funny, I have been doing the exact same thing today.

    Auctionarms.com user s.luke has a AR-7 .22 survival rifle for sale for $159.95

walmart sells the same for $144.32, and its new in box.

Win458 also an auctionarms.com user has the same rifle, in camo listed for $210. Walmarts version is slightly more expensive than their black version.

Though I have asked both why they are more expensive, explaining that I am not trying to be sarcastic, I simply wish to know why their rifles are better, I have yet to get a reply.

I'm going to email the URL to this thread to ton80. Lisa and I have no intention of pissing the dude off. He sells a lot of items on GB. But I have to admit I will exercise more caution in bidding on his auctions. I can't help but believing that a more polite seller will also be a more honest one, but that is only my opinion.

But _does_ Wal-Mart sell seconds? What the hell is meant by a "second." And, why would Winchester risk putting their brand name on an inferior product. Most companies seller their lower quality products under a different brand name.

I dont think the dude was saying walmart sells 2nds...I think he was just saying he could sell 2nds for wallmart prices at a profit

  5. regardless, if walmarts weapons are not seconds, why should we pay more for the same thing?

I think ton80 is definitely stating that the Wal-Mart rifle is inferior. It isn't the first time I have heard the argument. At a NAPA parts store a salesrep made the assertion that the same Motorcraft brand sparkplugs sold at Wal-Mart for less were plugs that failed to pass QC for tolerances. They were still functional, however, at less precise tolerances. I have yet to verify this claim either.

Honestly, I would pay a slight bit more just so I didn't have to do business with Wal-Mart. But that is within reason, and I am very conservative with my cash. However, I do so hate Wal-Mart. I haven't set foot inside a Wal-Mart store in perhaps over 2 years now. I would be willing to pay maybe $10 to $15 more for the rifle just to avoid Wal-Mart. His auction is significantly higher especially when shipping is considered.

To the point, sellers have to know that they need to remain competitive.

Sellers should also be tempered and polite to potential customers.

    To sum up my opinion:

I dont care for walmart either, but they buy large quantities, and its hard to bead thier prices because of that. I dont really think they buy inferior guns.

I think Mr. Ton80 simply cannot beat those prices, and instead of simply stating so, he chose to offer to sell his used guns at walmarts NIB prices

I might have been tempted to buy from him regardless of the slightly higher price, because I dont like walmart, but his seemingly poor additude has changed my mind.

  8. The problem with the argument of paying more to buy from someone else on an auction site is, how do you know the rifle you are buying did not in fact come from wal mart?

there is no way you can identify a rifle as to whether or not it had been sold through wally world. Is there?
